Privacy Policy for AIDU - English Learning Assistant

At SquareUncle (方砖叔), we value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how AIDU (the “Extension”) handles your information.

1. Data Collection and Usage

AIDU is designed with a “Local-First” philosophy.

  • Personal Information: The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) to our servers.
  • Reading Data: All text you select for analysis or save to your library is stored locally within your browser’s storage.
  • Vocabulary & Progress: Your learning progress and vocabulary lists are stored on your device.

2. Third-Party API Integration

To provide intelligent analysis, AIDU allows you to connect to third-party Large Language Model (LLM) providers (such as Google Gemini, OpenAI, or DeepSeek).

  • When you request an analysis, the strictly necessary text and context are sent directly to the API provider you have configured.
  • We do not intercept or store these API calls. Your interactions with these providers are governed by their respective privacy policies.

3. Storage and Sync

  • Local Storage: Data is saved using Chrome’s storage.local and unlimitedStorage APIs.
  • Optional Cloud Sync: If you choose to enable synchronization (via GitHub Gist or Cloudflare Workers), your data will be encrypted/transmitted to your own private storage. We do not have access to your sync credentials or data.

4. Permissions Justification

  • storage & unlimitedStorage: To save your reading lists and vocabulary locally.
  • sidePanel: To provide an immersive reading and learning interface.
  • activeTab & scripting: To allow you to save articles and interact with the text you are reading.
  • contextMenus: To provide the “Save to AIDU” right-click option.
  • host_permissions (<all_urls>): Required to allow the Extension to function on any educational website or article you choose to read.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by the “Effective Date” at the top.
